CHEROKEE CHILDREN'S AUTHOR VISITS NATIVE WINDS
SATURDAY, JUNE 21, 2008, 1 pm to 3 pm

Linda Boyden is part Cherokee, Irish and French Canadian.  A member of the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers, she won its book of the year for children's literature in 2003 for her first picture book, The Blue Roses.  Her latest book, Powwow's Coming provides readers a colorful look at contemporary Native American culture with a visit to a powwow.  The story is told rhythmically, echoing the always-present beat of the drum.  Powwow's Coming teaches children the importance of working together and the tolerant, all-inclusive nature of powwows.  Originally created three dimensionally with real feathers, fabric, leather beads, yarn and tissue paper, Powwow's Coming seems to pop off the page at young readers.  Call the store today to reserve your copies of her books!
